Micro ATM and AEPS both let customers take cash out of their bank account at your shop. The difference is how the customer proves who they are.
AEPS: Aadhaar and fingerprint
The customer gives their Aadhaar number and scans a fingerprint. No card is needed, which makes it ideal for people who don't carry a debit card or don't remember their PIN.
Micro ATM: debit card and PIN
The customer swipes or inserts their debit card in a small handheld device and enters their PIN, just like at an ATM. It works even when the bank account isn't linked to Aadhaar.
Quick comparison
- What the customer needs: AEPS needs Aadhaar and a fingerprint. Micro ATM needs a debit card and PIN.
- Your device: AEPS needs a fingerprint scanner. Micro ATM needs a card device.
- Best for: AEPS suits pension and wage customers without cards. Micro ATM suits card users and accounts not linked to Aadhaar.
Why offer both
When a fingerprint won't scan or an account isn't linked to Aadhaar, a Micro ATM gives you a second way to serve the same customer. You keep the transaction, and the customer.
